Shenzhen cultivates a city for mass fitness
Shenzhen has been steadfastly advancing its efforts to promote its fitness-for-all program in recent years, adhering to the principle of “monthly themes and weekly highlights.” With over 3,000 events organized annually, the city has successfully cultivated a prevailing culture of fitness among its residents.
In 2023, Shenzhen is poised for a comprehensive revival of various sports events, with an anticipated lineup of over 600 sports activities, including nearly 150 major sports events.
According to the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports, the city achieved a remarkable total sports output of 135.4 billion yuan (about $18.56 billion) in 2022, representing a year-on-year growth of 6.5%. The sports industry in Shenzhen generated an impressive added value of 53.26 billion yuan (about $7.3 billion), marking a 6% year-on-year increase. In recognition of these outstanding achievements, Shenzhen was honored as one of the inaugural national model cities for mass sports and fitness last year.
An official from the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports emphasized that the city has been diligently implementing the nation’s fitness-for-all program, aiming to integrate mass fitness with public health. The city’s goal is to foster a collective consensus on the importance of mass fitness and shared well-being, thereby establishing it as a trend for pursuing an elevated quality of life in the new era.
